LOCKHEED CONSTELLATION - 60" Wingspan
LOCKHEED 049 CONSTELLATION (NC86505), Scratch built in 2005 by Carl Appolionio.
The first Lockheed 049 flew in January 1943. The first 15 built were delivered to the USAAF as C-69s. The first commercial 049 flight was made in August 1945.
The airplane this model represents was c/n 2026 and was delivered to TWA in November 1945. It was christened "Paris Sky Chief" and made a preview flight from New York to Paris in December 1945. This was the first "overwater" type delivered to TWA. The plane was renamed "Navajo Sky Chief".
On December 28, 1946, the plane crashed near Shannon, Ireland aiport. It was a combination of an incorrectly installed altimeter and unheated windshield panels fogging up, causing the pilot to approach too low.
This model can not be shipped (too fragile), must be picked up.
