Moffett, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy" In 1914, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for a daring night landing at Vera Cruz, Mexico. although not a pilot, he was a very strong advocate for Naval Air Power. | JAMES FITZMAURICE (1898-1965) - signed envelope, Fitzmaurice, an Irishman, served the BEF & RAF in WW I. He became commandant of the Irish Air Corps in the 1920s. In April, 1928, he became the third crew member of the Junkers W33 Bremen along with Kohl & von Hunefeld. They made the first East to West Trans-Atlantic flight. Fitzmaurice Flying Field on Long Island, NY was named for him. This May 12, 1929 envelope marks that dedication. $35.00 |
