Aircraft Illustrated Extra’ was launched in mid 1969 as a companion to the monthly ‘Aircraft Illustrated’.
Each issue contained 4-5 articles on a (usually military) single theme, 3-4 full-page colour photos of aircraft types
Only 16 issues published. Replaced by ‘Air Extra’.

Air Extra was published in mid 1973 to replace ‘Aircraft Illustrated Extra’.
Similar in style and layout to the monthly ‘Aircraft Illustrated’ but it concentrated on a single theme in each issue.
Each issue comprised 40 pages, with one or more b+w photos on almost every page and two pages of colour photos.
